2024 Annual General Meeting

Approximately 240 Spartans and guests enjoyed the 2024 Annual General Meeting.

Hamish Blair (S1423) photographed all presentations. If you would like high resolution copies of the images, Hamish has generously made them available here (or send an email to [email protected]). And, if you want to see what Hamish can do if he is really trying view www.hamishblair.com.au.

Legends

Jay Fleming explained the concept of the Legends, runners who had completed all marathons. There were 13 in 2007, a number which has now reduced to three who are currently running. Eight were present at the AGM: Pete Battrick, Nev Gardner, Wayne Thompson, David Foskey, John Dobson, Peter Ryan, John Dean, Roger Weinstein.

Fastest Spartan Presentation

Pete Battrick (S5) presenting the Jack Gubbins award for fastest Spartan (2:29:43) in 2023 to Jason Daye (S1293).
Meta Vincent (SF95) was not present to accept the Shirley Young award for fastest female Spartan (3:26:08).

Hall of Fame Presentation

Life Member Presentation

Past President John Dean recounted the involvement of Felicity Doolan (SF80) with the committee of the Melbourne Marathon Spartans over the last ten years. She was originally Secretary of the club but for seven years has been the membership secretary. This role is essential both to the administration of member records, and the smooth running of AGMs. Every new member’s marathons must be verified and recorded, a substantial task usually requiring multiple interactions. Felicity has performed this role in an exemplary manner and the committee accordingly recommended her for life membership of the club. The meeting voted unanimously to support this motion. (It should also be recorded that Felicity was fastest female in 2014.)
Life Member Maureen Wilson (SF34) made the presentation and is pictured with Felicity and John.

Honorary Spartan Presentation

Tyler Parfuss is going to run his fifteenth Melbourne Marathon event in 2024, so will be the second Honorary Spartan to earn a blue singlet.

We were delighted that Tyler and his family were able to attend the AGM to receive this singlet from guest speaker Oscar Carlson.

Tyler has been helped to fulfil his ambitions through the work of CPEC, the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre. See their website here
