2012 Target – First Update

Posted by:

My longest run has increased to 14km thanks to participation in one of the events comprising the Great Ocean Road Marathon weekend. I’ve never been before but it was no secret as there were 3800 finishers over four events. Steve Moneghetti completed 3 of the 4, wimping out of the 45km run. At least two other Melbourne Marathon Spartans club committee members were there: Jay Fleming completed the marathon despite an injured hamstring, Graeme Lay was also a finisher in the marathon, and Colin Silcock-Delaney handed out drinks to runners. I’m sure that there were plenty of other Spartans, especially in the longer events. I went with my daughter, and I’m not sure whether it’s a source of pride or shame that she finished ahead of me.

Back to the training. It is always satisfying to increase the length of the “longest run” in any training campaign. The time, however, was disappointing and reinforces the need to keep gradually increasing the duration of the long runs, and the intensity of some of the shorter runs. It’s now 20 weeks to the start day, so I will look around for some more runs approaching the 21km length.
